living with parents, single in your 40s, and navigating modern dating with Simone Paget

making peace with your life: from avoidance to acceptance, and learning to love yourself

In this episode of Love, Brie, I sit down with Canadian writer Simone Paget to talk about life in your 40s, being single, and the experience of living with our parents as adults. We recorded this conversation as part of the Single Women Series last year when the podcast was still called Seriously Single. While some things have changed for both of us since then, the heart of our conversation remains as relevant as ever.

Simone, who's in her 40s, and I talk about how living with our parents at this stage of life can be seen as unconventional, but we explore why it’s a choice that has its own sense of empowerment and freedom. As writers in the sex and dating space, we also dive into modern love, relationships, and self-worth, sharing our own personal stories along the way.

This conversation is part of my Single AF Series on the podcast, and I hope you find it as honest and relatable as I do.

P.S. A Year Can Make a Difference!

If you listened to the episode, you’ll remember that I wasn’t exactly in love with Vancouver at the time—I’d been pretty vocal about how the city just wasn’t doing it for me. But as it turns out, a lot can change in a year! Thanks to the incredible new community I’ve found, Vancouver has slowly grown on me. I’m now finding the beauty in the city that I missed before.

And about those dating apps I was totally shitting on in the episode? Well, my attitude has definitely shifted. Life has a funny way of surprising you, and I’m currently seeing someone. It’s amazing how time, a little bit of perspective, and new connections can turn things around. Dating, as it turns out, isn’t as bleak as I once made it seem.

So yeah, a year really can make all the difference!
